    Victim Services

    Our victim services strives to provide services for all victims of crime within Major County. This includes burglary, child abuse, bullying, assault and battery, domestic and sexual assault, etc.

    Our victims’ advocate offers assistance through the legal process of a case from investigation to closure of the case. Services can include accompaniment to law enforcement interviews and court dates, notifications of any changes of status in a case, as well as transportation to court. Our advocate can help identify any additional resources necessary to cope with trauma associated with victimization, such as counseling or filing a protective order.

    ANY victim of crime in Major County is entitled to receive services.

     

    Major County Sheriff's Office Victim Service Unit

    Since 2017 the Major County Sheriff's Office has received funding through a Victims of Crime Act grant to employ a full-time Victim Service Specialist to assist and support victims of crime in our county. Our Victim Service Specialist can provide advocacy that may include:

    • Crisis intervention
    • Safety planning
    • Emotional support
    • Case status updates
    • Notification of victim rights
    • Assist victims of crime when applying for emergency protective orders
    • Provide information about and referrals to other service providers
    • Court accompaniment

    Victim Rights - As a victim of a crime, pursuant to the Oklahoma Constitution Article 2, § 34, you have certain rights.

    Crime Victims Compensation Program - The purpose of the Crime Victims Compensation Act is to provide a method of compensation for victims of violent crime. All funds come from federal and state offenders through fines and penalty assessments. An arrest of the offender does NOT have to take place in order to be eligible to file a claim; however, the victim and/or claimant is expected to fully cooperate in the apprehension, investigation, and prosecution of the perpetrator. The claimant is also expected to fully cooperate with the District Attorney's Office and Victims Compensation Board staff during the processing of the claim.
